About Burbank Sanitary District

Established May 20, 1940, Burbank Sanitary District is located in an unincorporated section of Santa Clara County, surrounded by the City of San Jose.

Service Scope

The District operates and maintains approximately 8 miles of collection sewer lines and transports approximately 336,000 gallons of sewage per day to the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant.  Approximately 95% of the District's collection system was installed prior to 1955.

Staff

The District does not employ any full-or part-time staff. All District engineering, management, legal counsel, maintenance, inspection, and emergency sewer response services are contracted to outside firms.

Organizational Structure

Burbank Sanitary District is a special district organized under the California Health and Safety Code and the Sanitary Act of 1923.  The District is governed by a 5 member Board of Directors elected at large.  Election of Directors is consolidated with the November Elections, with three and two Directors being elected in alternating, odd numbered years.  Directors are elected to serve four year terms.  The list of Terms can be found on the Santa Clara County Registrars website here. The District Board routinely meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month, with special meetings called as necessary.  Daily management is carried out by the District Secretary who reports directly to the Board of Directors.
